Patent filing images of the upcoming Volvo EX30 have surfaced ahead of its official debut. Volvo has confirmed that the compact crossover will debut on 07 June 2023. Until now, Volvo has only released teaser images of the electric vehicle that reveal nothing but the tail lamps. However, these leaked patent images reveal much more about the upcoming electric Volvo.
Swedish car manufacturer Volvo is a known and respected names in the global automobile industry. Volvo gained prominence due to its unwavering focus on automotive safety. In fact, Volvo is the reason we’re all wearing three-point seatbelts in our cars today as the brand developed it way back in 1959. In recent years though, the unwavering focus has shifted to the development of electric vehicles.
Volvo is one of the first mainstream manufacturers to have launched a series production electric car. The Volvo XC40 Recharge was launched in 2020. It was based on the petrol-powered XC40 and featured a 78kWh battery pack. As the XC40 Recharge is the smallest SUV produced by Volvo, naturally, the only way ahead was to work on other bigger products in Volvo’s portfolio.
Sure enough, Volvo then set to work on the C40 electric crossover. Both the XC40 and C40 are officially available in the UAE as well. Over time, Volvo began working on other electric products and as it turns out, there is one product that is smaller than even the XC40 Recharge. Called the EX30, it is a compact crossover SUV that is set to debut in less than a month from now.
Going by these patent images, In terms of the design language, the EX30 very much emulates other recent Volvo designs. Up front, one would find the grille is missing as an electric vehicle doesn’t really need a grille. The headlamps carry typical Volvo styling. The front end of the car surely gives one the impression that it is a baby EX90.
On the side profile though, things change quite a bit. It is an all-new vehicle and therefore carries fresh a fresh design. The C-Pillar is chunky and this seems to be inspired by the XC40. At the rear, the styling is reminiscent of a few VW cars. The vertically stacked tail lamps are now split into two separate pieces. The images reveal what seems to be two LED strips connecting the two tail lamps. This creates a rectangle-like design at the rear.
Volvo hasn’t revealed any other details yet. It is known that the EX30 is based on parent company Geely’s SEA architecture. Thankfully though, we won’t have to wait too long to know more details about the EX30 as the launch is just a few days away. The EX30 will sit below the XC40 Recharge in Volvo’s EV lineup.
Volvo will open bookings for the SUV on 07 June in a few select countries. While there is no confirmation if the UAE is among those countries, we do know that the UAE will be among the first few countries to receive the EX30. The EX30 will be the least expensive electric car from Volvo. Check out used Volvo cars for sale in the UAE and new Volvo cars for sale in the UAE.
