Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Unveiled: The Return Of The Light Duty Prado

Toyota has unveiled the new Land Cruiser SUV to the world at an event in Japan. The Japanese marque has added the new Land Cruiser 250 Light-Duty Series and Land Cruiser 70 Heavy-Duty Series SUVs to its portfolio. This results in all three Land Cruiser series being available once again. For now, let’s take a look at what the new LC 250 has to offer.

Land Cruiser 250 (Light-Duty Series)

The last time Toyota updated its Light-Duty series was back in 2009 with the Land Cruiser Prado 150. Now, after 14 years the Light-Duty segment is updated with the new LC 250 Series. The new SUV measures 4,925mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,870mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850mm. In comparison to the older Prado model, the Land Cruiser 250 is 100mm longer, 95mm wider, 20mm taller, and has a 60mm longer wheelbase.

The new 250 Series LC is based on the same GA-F platform as the 300 Series. This allows the new SUV to improve its off-road characteristics. The new platform also increases frame rigidity by 50% and there is a 30% increase in overall rigidity. The suspension setup has also been borrowed from the LC 300 for improved wheel articulation.

By the looks of it, we can tell that the new LC 250 does not skimp on off-road tech and hardware. It will continue to feature a full-fledged 4×4 system that includes Multi-Terrain Monitor, Multi-Terrain Select, Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM), and Lane Tracing Assist; among others. The LC 250 is the first vehicle from Toyota to feature the Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM), which enables the front stabilizer state to be changed, delivering driving performance and ride comfort when off-road and handling stability when on-road.

Land Cruiser 250 Exterior Design

The exterior design of the new LC 250 continues the boxy silhouette that the SUV is known for. However, it is a complete deviation from its predecessor model the Land Cruiser Prado 150, which had rounded edges. Based on the images, we can expect the LC 250 to be available in two versions with a few exterior changes between the two trims.

Other Exterior Features:

  • LED Lighting
  • Roof Rails
  • Side Step
  • Dual-Tone Roof
  • Bash Plates At Both Ends

The Land Cruiser Prado name was first used in the 1990 model called the 70 Series Prado, here is a trip down memory lane on the history of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
