Exactly five years ago, Toyota unveiled to all the beautiful FT-1 Concept which took many by storm. A few years went by with various teases hinting at a new low-slung coupe to roll out of the Toyota factory and even the Toyota Supra nameplate returning to grace said vehicle.
Making sporadic appearances here and there, the new A90 Supra has finally been revealed at the ongoing North American International Auto Show.
Riding on the same underpinnings as the upcoming BMW Z4, the new Supra boasts a muscular exterior and a plush cabin.
Not only does the new Toyota Supra share its underpinnings with the new Z4, it also has the same engine as the Z4 M40i.
335 horsepower races through its veins thanks to 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine allowing the Supra to launch from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
Toyota also promises the latest Supra will offer “an exhilarating blend of power, precision and agility” thanks to its low centre of gravity, 50:50 weight distribution and rear-wheel-drive design.
The 2020 Supra will offer two distinct drive modes; Normal and Sport. Engaging Sport mode reduces traction and stability control functions but sharpens the throttle response and increases the steering weight.
It also engages the active differential which drastically enhances the exhaust note.
The revived Supra will go on sale later this year and will be available in two trims – 3.0 and 3.0 Premium, a launch edition will also be available.
All variants if the Supra get Keyless Smart Entry, rear-view camera, power folding mirrors and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel.
