#1 – Same size, double the power
An upgrade from the previous six- and eight-speed automatic gearboxes, one would assume the 10-speed box would be larger in size, but you would be wrong. The newest gearbox is almost the same size as the previous ones which limits the need to alter changes to the vehicle interfaces.

Compared to the last model years gearbox, the 10-speed box has shorter gear ratios and proprietary controls providing seamless shifting for drivers which in turn makes it more efficient compared to six- and eight-speed boxes.
#3 – Quicker shifts for increased performance
Connected to the signature 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine rated at 420 horsepower, the 10L80’s (that’s the gearbox name) quick gear changes allows for increased performance as the perfect gear is always available whenever the driver pushes on the accelerator pedal.
#4 – Fuel efficiency
Escalade and fuel efficiency are two things one would rarely put in the same article, but now with the 10-speed transmission fitted the Escalade isn’t the gas guzzler it once was. The wider overall ratio enables a lower numerical top gear ratio, and because of that, the box has less friction resulting in greater fuel economy.
#5 – Overall improved efficiency
With the previously mentioned wider overall ratio spread, the new 10-speed box allows for a lower numerical top gear ratio. This reduces engine speed when cruising down the motorway.
#6 – GM control system
Behind closed doors, GM (General Motors) have worked day and night to create exclusive algorithms, calibrations and software for the new gearbox to ensure world-class shift time quickness and responsiveness. While not stuck inside the box itself, millions of calculations are computed via an externally mounted unit.
