The Nurburgring is the place to be if you want to the latest and greatest machines from all walks of life, they also hold racing events every now and then so we’ve heard. Hyundai has been spotted at the European track testing what appears to be one of their concepts shown off earlier in the year.
Yes, it does bear similar markings to the Veloster, but this is the Hyundai RM16 with a mid-mounted engine! Shouldn’t the engine be mounted in the front? Well, it should, but with the engine placed just in front of the rear axle, this Hyundai is not only lighter, but handling is set to be more responsive than its hot hatch rivals like the Ford Focus RS, Volkswagen Golf R and others.
It’s said that the engine is a 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor connected to a six-speed manual. 300 horses are said to escape from the tailpipes. Not quite RS territory but it’s mighty impressive for the brand.
Hatchbacks with wacky engine placements like this are few and far between with the most memorable hailing from Renault with the Turbo 5 and Clio V6 springing to mind immediately.
The engine placement does reduce the practicality aspects of a hatchback, but who needs the extra seats when you can unleash all that power.
We’ve got tamer and more reserved new Hyundai Veloster and used Hyundai Veloster for sale in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
Hyundai hasn’t confirmed when exactly this fiery hatchback will hit the market, fingers crossed it drops by next year along with an updated version of the Veloster.
