With the Geneva Motor done and dusted for another year, one vehicle shied away in the corner without anyone noticing it. Upon second glance you’ll realise this is not ordinary Volkswagen Golf R but a cleverly disguised performance variant.
Coated in light gold, the model on show hosted a titanium exhaust system bolted to the undercarriage and Pirelli Trofeo R tyres on each corner which also happen to be an option extra on the Lamborghini Huracan Performante.
Additionally, the enhanced Volkswagen Golf R-Line model has drilled brake discs, rear spoiler that adds 20kg of extra downforce and air curtains to the front end.
With the added aero kit, the vehicles 0-100 km/h time remains unchanged at 4.4 seconds with the DSG transmission controlling the 2-litre engine rated at 306 horsepower.
The Performance Package as it’s known as removes the Golf R’s speed limiter allowing for the upgraded version to hit a top speed of 267 km/h instead of 250.
In all fairness, Volkswagen has kept the uprated model a secret until now, and it was tucked away in the corner during the show.
As of know, the Performance package is confirmed for European customers with other markets soon to follow as with the package equipped; the Volkswagen Golf R will no doubt retain its spot at the top of the hot hatch segment.
VW have yet to confirm how much the package will cost and when exactly we’ll see the first to hit the road.
