BMW tried their best to keep the BMW i5 a surprise for this week’s Frankfurt motor show, but it seems someone didn’t get the memo and “accidentally” released an internal still image of what to expect.
As it appears, design patents released last year are identical to the single image available albeit the body work is more alluring than what we have seen before.
Immediately, traditional BMW i Series markings are evident with a dual-tone front grille flanked by adaptive headlights and black vents near the windshield.
Either side appears to be completed with aerodynamic side skirts which are certainly a selling point as no vehicle on sale at the moment sports such a design.
Other noteworthy dark accents are present on the roof panel, window surrounds and door mirrors.
The mysterious BMW i5
Technical specifications remain a mystery. However, the BMW i5 is expected to slot in between i3 and i8 models and will have a fully electric drivetrain.
Its full drive range on a single charge has yet to be confirmed too, although experts are suggesting between 500 and 700 kms per charge.
We won’t have to wait long for a full reveal at the model is destined for the Frankfurt motor show later this week.
What’s next for the BMW i Series? We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a full electric SUV somewhere along the line and a crossover.
