Porsche 930 Slantnose History
The Porsche 911 is widely accepted as the most iconic sports car of all time. It was first introduced in 1964. You can read all about the seven generations of the Porsche 911 in our detailed car spotlight article. By the late 60s, Porsche realised that it had to get into motorsport in order to prove how good its cars were.
In 1972, Porsche started working on a turbocharged version of the 911. The initial purpose of the turbo model was just to help Porsche homologate its racecars. The original purpose of the turbocharged version was just to homologate their racing cars, but it soon became a very popular car in the public domain.
For the 1976 racing season, Porsche developed the 935, which is a racecar based on the very first Porsche 911 Turbo. It was one of the most successful racecars of its time. The 935 had done away with the iconic circular headlamps, replacing them with a flat bonnet and an intricate bumper for better aerodynamics. The headlamp was incorporated into the bumper!
In 1982, a special road-legal version of the Porsche 935 was commissioned by Tag Heuer’s co-owner, Mansour Ojjeh. It was a one-off build, but it became very popular and highly requested by prospective buyers of the 911 Turbo. This is exactly what led to the development of the 930 Slantnose.
Porsche started producing the 930 Slantnose in 1986 under the special order program with a simple formula — the underpinnings and performance of the road-going 911 Turbo with the front end of the 935 racecar. Only 948 units were ever produced!
Porsche 930 Slantnose Design & Styling
At first glance, the Porsche 930 Slantnose captivates with its unmistakable silhouette. The most striking feature, of course, is the iconic slantnose front end, which gives the car an aerodynamic edge and an aggressive stance. This design element, inspired by Porsche’s racing heritage, not only enhances the car’s performance but also sets it apart as a unique and sought-after model.
Each Slantnose unit was handcrafted by remodeling the front fenders. The signature circular headlamps of the 911 are replaced by iconic pop-up headlights. On the side profile, the fenders are more pronounced while the polished Fuchs alloy wheels feature a stylish black and chrome combination.
Also on the side profile are functional vents channeling air to a radiator and to the engine bay. At the rear is a massive spoiler with vents that channel air to the intercooler placed right underneath it. The black-coloured elements provide a great contrast to the exotic ‘Guard Red’ paint job.
The sleek lines, flared wheel arches, and low profile contribute to the 930’s timeless appeal. Every curve seems purposefully crafted, evoking a sense of speed even when the car is at a standstill.
Cockpit & Interior Of The Porsche 930 Slantnose
Despite its performance-oriented nature, the 1988 Porsche 930 Slantnose doesn’t skimp on luxury or comfort. Step inside the cabin, and you’re greeted by a meticulously crafted interior that blends ergonomic design with high-quality materials.

Porsche 930 Slantnose Engine & Performance
Beneath its captivating exterior lies engineering ingenuity. The heart of the 1988 Porsche 930 Slantnose is a turbocharged 3.3-litre flat-six engine, delivering exhilarating performance with every input on the throttle pedal.
Power output ranges between 300 & 330hp. While 330hp doesn’t sound like much today, it was quite significant in the 80s. The Slantnose was the fastest production car in Germany when it was first launched.
It accelerates from 0-100knp/h in just 4.8 seconds and will go on to a top speed of 278km/h, which is pretty fast even by today’s standards. But this is a car that isn’t only about straight-line speed. The 930’s driving experience is defined by its handling prowess and agility.
It features rear-wheel-drive, finely tuned suspension, precise steering, a wide rear track, and rear-wheel-steering. The 930 Slantnose feels planted and responsive, whether carving through mountain passes or navigating city streets. It’s a car that demands respect but rewards skilled drivers with an unmatched sense of connection and control.
Legacy, Collectibility & Pricing
The 1988 Porsche 930 Slantnose has cemented its place in history as a collector’s dream. Its limited production numbers, timeless design, and legendary performance ensure that demand remains strong among enthusiasts and investors alike.
Whether preserved as a museum piece or enjoyed on the open road, each 930 Slantnose tells a story of precision engineering and driving passion.
