Do you find yourself torn between a pickup and a Range Rover? If the answer is yes, then Startech has exactly what you want. Making its Middle Eastern debut at the latest Dubai International Motor Show, not only has it shocked people it leaves many wondering why? No matter what, it’s quite a sight to see.
Based on the exact same platform as a Land Rover Range Rover Sport Supercharged, from far away you main notice some subtle changes, however at the rear it’s a whole new ball game. Startech has not only cut a part of the rear end off but also slapped a nice new body kit to make it stand out just a bit more. This body kit adds a new front lip with more vents for extra cooling and some new LED lights for a more dominant profile in wing mirrors of those in front. It all extends to the rear where the main focal point is of course the new “boot” plus some indents.
The entire body kit is made from carbon fibre, to reduce overall weight and with some massive 23-inch tyres have been slapped it makes a huge statement. New quad tailpipes help as well.
Inside, there is even more customisation compared to standard Range Rover’s, this one for example has a two-tone leather interior (black with an orange stripe) which not only covers the five seats but also the interior trim and the entire centre console. Obviously most if not all interior features have been retained such as multi offroad selector, ventilated seats, auto-speed limiter, Bluetooth pairing and a large touch screen interface filled with navigation, media options, audio settings and ambient lighting adjustments. There is also some light-weight carbon fibre thrown in for good measure and to lighten the load.
The rear window is now heated and tinted plus the Range Rover’s panoramic sunroof has been retained for enjoying the night sky or the sunshine.
This “crossover” is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 motor pumping out roughly 526 horsepower, with a top speed of 250 km/h and is able to do 0-100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. It’s a slight boost over stock Range Rover’s thanks to some careful tinkering with the exhaust. Pretty quick, however the bed is a bit small to be lugging around DIY equipment and items.
Exact bed capacity is not stated, however it’s large enough for “transporting a securely fastened cage for falcons” absolutely perfect for the region. This new tailgate can be automatically operated via the keyless-entry remote and is coated in a protective plastic covering in order not to scratch the base.
Pricing has yet to be revealed, same can be said for production numbers and availability worldwide. No doubt it will be available here and we can’t see Startech making to many of these in order to make them quite the commodity throughout the years.
If this “crossover” tickles your fancy they’ll be available in the near future from Startech, in the meantime check out all new Range Rover Sport Supercharged and used Range Rover Sport Supercharged for sale in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
