As of today, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have moved car registration to an only-online platform and with that said, the RTA announced yesterday (21st of July, 2018), starting from August 1st 2018, they will be no more plastic registration cards issued out annually.
Instead, they will issue virtual registration cars valid for a lifetime. Valid for a lifetime, the virtual registration won’t have an expiration date.
This is the third and final stage of lifetime registration and will now be available for private vehicle owners. Commercial vehicles, taxis and rental cars are already online as they were part of the first to phases earlier this year.
“The new system will ensure that no plastic cars are issued every year, while the virtual cards will also come without an expiry date. This means a person will register his vehicle once when he buys it and later it is renewed annually after purchase of insurance and passing of the technical test,” explained Sultan Al Marzouqi, director of Vehicles Licensing at RTA’s Licensing Agency.
Once the mandatory technical check or vehicle inspection is completed, the renewal of registration can be done either via the RTA’s website, call centre or the RTA’s Dubai Drive mobile application.
Once completed, the owner of the vehicle will receive an email copy of the e-registration card and it will also be available via the RTA’s previously mentioned app.
The e-registration card will be accepted at all borders and foreign countries.
