Earlier this year, the Maserati GranTurismo adorned a minor facelift in an attempt to hide the fact the model has been around for over ten years. Those who may be getting weary of the model in its current form will be glad to hear a new version is on the way albeit still a few years away.
Maserati has kept a tight lip on what form the next-gen GranTurismo will take on with reports claiming a concept of the 2020 model was shown off earlier this year. Infused with inspiration from the all-electric Alfieri and current GranTurismo’s, we’ll see more than a minor facelift.
Its delay remains shrouded in mystery although experts have it squared down to Maserati working on a new platform for future models including electric, hybrid model along with others.
Performance and drivetrains have yet to be revealed for the Italian sports coupe. However, reports suggest a selection of turbochargers units mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox rated at various outputs. There are also potential hybrid versions and a possible electric Maserati GranTurismo due shortly after petrol versions launch.
Sources indicate that top of the range two door coupes fitted with a twin-turbo V8 3.8-litre motor borrowed from the Quattroporte GTS which is rated at 523 horsepower.
Maserati hasn’t confirmed when in 2020 we’ll see the next-gen Granturismo hit showrooms around the world, nor have they attached a price tag to the updated model.
