Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Panamericana Edition Debuts: Limited To Just Two Units For The World

Porsche has launched a special-edition 718 Cayman GT4 RS Panamericana at Rennsport Reunion 7, developed in partnership with TAG Heuer and Porsche Latin America. Limited to just two units—Car Number 154 and Car Number 152—this Panamericana release is part of Porsche’s ‘Sonderwunsch’ program, inspired by the 1953 Carrera Panamericana race.

In collaboration with TAG Heuer, Porsche has created two bespoke 718 Cayman GT4 RS models to celebrate the Carrera Panamericana rally race in Mexico. Through the Sonderwunsch program, allowing for custom requests, customers can look forward to more unique editions, building on recent releases like the Pixar-inspired Porsche Sally special based on the 911 Carrera GTS.

Robert Ader, Head of Marketing at Porsche AG, said, “With TAG Heuer and Porsche, the Carrera Panamericana brought together two brands that have so much in common: innovation, a passion for racing, and making dreams come true. We want to celebrate our partnership with this pair of one-off cars. It’s also a gift to our many enthusiastic customers in Latin America.”

Special Edition: Exterior Highlights

  • Both cars showcase a Le Mans Silver Metallic exterior. The Le Mans Silver Metallic paint was initially introduced for the 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition, marking the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
  • One car displays the number ‘152’ on the doors and roof, while the other bears ‘154,’ echoing the design of the original 550 Coupe race cars from Carrera Panamericana.
  • The numbers are highlighted in yellow, reminiscent of the historic race car aesthetics.
  • The hood of both cars features the TAG Heuer logo in a dark shade of grey.
  • Additionally, a Pegasus motif pays homage to the 550 Spyder, another Porsche model that participated in the Carrera Panamericana.

Special Edition: Interior Highlights

  • Striking red leather seats contrast boldly with black leather on doors, dashboard, and console.
  • Tricoloured cross-stitching in Mexican flag hues adorns the steering wheel and dashboard.
  • Highlighted by a stopwatch module in the centre console, featuring dual clocks with a historic tie to the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph on the 154.
  • This module includes a clock on the left with an eight-day power reserve, while the right clock functions as a stopwatch with a scale.
  • The clocks pay homage to the original TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph unveiled by Jack Heuer 60 years ago for the Mexican road race.
  • Door sills boast ‘GT4 RS Panamericana Special’ lettering, emphasizing the model’s exclusivity.
  • The centre armrest proudly displays an embossed TAG Heuer logo.

Carrera Panamericana Race

The Carrera Panamericana, a demanding 3,400-kilometre road race across Mexico, forged a close connection between Porsche and TAG Heuer. Porsche entered the race in 1952 and showcased the Type 550 sports car in 1953. Inspired by the race’s spirit, Jack Heuer introduced the Carrera chronograph wristwatch in 1963, designed for racing professionals. Despite Porsche trademarking the name, the Carrera legacy continued with models like the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 in 1972.

The collaboration between Porsche and TAG Heuer flourished, leading to significant achievements in Formula 1, including the World Championships in 1984 and 1985. The partnership expanded through various racing competitions, culminating in Porsche’s Formula E team in 2019 and the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup in 2020, solidifying their enduring and impactful collaboration.

Engine & Performance

As mentioned earlier, the special edition model is based on the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS. Despite all the exterior and interior changes, under the bonnet, the Panamericana model uses the same powertrain.
