MG’s popularity within the Middle East is certainly booming since its introduction just a few years ago. With a diverse selection of models catering towards UAE drivers, another one has joined the lineup; the MG RX5.
The exterior showcases sleek and recognisable angles along with a striking wing-shaped front grille flanked by stylish headlights. Each corner features a set of sporty five-spoke 18-inch dual-tone rims on select models while the rear end features an extended chrome plate separating dual taillights.
The new MG RX5 is available with two unique engines; a 1.5-litre or a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Both are aided by a turbocharger and can be had with either a six- or seven-speed automatic gearbox. The 1.5-litre motor pumps out 169 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque while the 2.0-litre power unit churns out 221 horses and 350 Nm of torque.
Mated to a smart all-wheel-drive system, the MG RX5 launches form 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. The intelligent system also offers impressive off-road performance on select models along with a new generation of electromagnetic torque management.
Three unique flavours for the new MG RX5 SUV
Starting off with the 1.5T STD, owners can look forward to automatic air-conditioning, electric windows, cruise control, multi-adjustable front seats and a remotely operated rear hatch. In terms of safety, ABS, EBD, Auto Hold, Hill Descent Control and a tyre pressure monitoring system are just the tip of the iceberg.
COM variants can be had with either the 1.5- or 2.0-litre engine along with front fog lamps, reverse camera, leather-wrapped steering wheel and an 8-inch colour touchscreen media interface with Apple CarPlay as standard.
Topping the entire range is the 2.0T LUX. Fitted with all of the above, it also benefits from a set of LED headlights, power folding mirrors, electric driver’s seat, enlarged panoramic sunroof, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and additional airbags.
Prices for the new MG RX5 start at $14,200 or AED 52,155 depending on the market.
