Besides a fresh face and a few new features here and there, it appears the new Mercedes AMG A45 is being cranked up all the way to 11 according to Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers who was asked about the upcoming hot hatch at the recent New York Auto Show.
What did he have to say about the Mercedes AMG A45?
He confirmed the model will receive an all-new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine good for 400 horsepower if not more. Wait, what?
Yes, that number is true and without any electric assistance either. But it’s not all about the numbers as the seriously hat hatch is referred to as the total package. The interior boasts Mercedes latest multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, two HD definition screens with one serving as the dashboard cluster and the other used for multimedia purposes, redesigned circular a/c vents and updated COMAND touch sensitive controller.
During the show, Moers also confirmed the new Mercedes AMG A35. Said to be the entry-level AMG hot hatch, 300+ horsepower is confirmed to push its way to each corner thanks to an all-wheel-drive system and a punchy 2.0-litre turbo engine.
Mercedes is also working on the next generation of CLA- and GLA-Class models based on the 2019 A-Class. These two will also receive their own AMG variants. There’s also an A-Class saloon in the works which has been spotted in the past although it’s unknown what markets this model will be offered in.
