Swedish car manufacturer Volvo is in the news and for all the right reasons. The long-awaited unveiling of the 2025 Volvo XC90 took place recently. With a refreshed design and more upmarket interior, the SUV has received a fresh lease of life. The new Volvo XC90 is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2025.

Alongside launching the new XC90, Volvo also revealed some details on its plans for the near and distant future. In addition, Volvo is also backtracking on its claims of becoming an EV-only brand by 2030.

2025 Volvo XC90 Design and Styling: Evolutionary, Yet Familiar

The 2025 Volvo XC90 continues Volvo’s tradition of minimalist, elegant design. While the exterior has been updated with more contemporary details, it still retains the sophisticated and restrained appearance that has come to define Volvo SUVs.

Key design elements like the LED headlights and the distinctive grille remain intact, but they have been refined to create a sharper, more modern look. Subtle tweaks in the body shape, with more aerodynamic lines and slightly larger dimensions, also contribute to a bolder stance on the road.

The interior of the XC90, however, is where the true luxury of the vehicle shines. Featuring high-quality materials such as leather, wood, and metal accents, Volvo has created a cabin that exudes comfort and elegance.

The spacious layout ensures that both driver and passengers have ample room, while the integration of advanced technology, including a large central 11.2-inch portrait touchscreen, adds a touch of futuristic functionality.

2025 Volvo XC90 Safety Features

Volvo has always been a leader in automotive safety, and the 2025 XC90 is no exception. The SUV is equipped with the latest in driver assistance technology, including Volvo’s signature Pilot Assist, which now offers even more advanced semi-autonomous driving capabilities. The system is designed to help reduce driver fatigue, especially during long highway drives, by providing steering, braking, and acceleration support.

Additionally, the 2025 XC90 includes Volvo’s new “Safe Zone” system, which enhances pedestrian and cyclist detection, ensuring that the vehicle can react to potential dangers in an urban setting. The model also features over-the-air (OTA) software updates, meaning that the vehicle’s tech will remain up to date without the need for regular visits to the dealership.

2025 Volvo XC90 Hybrid Powertrain

The new Volvo XC90 is powered by the same powertrain as the pre-facelift. There are two mild-hybrid options and one plug-in hybrid. All of these powertrain options make use of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-4 engine paired with a 48-volt motor and the PHEV uses a 14.6kWh battery pack.
