Toyota has given a few upgrades to the GR86 borrowed from the Subaru BRZ sports car. They have also taken this opportunity to celebrate 40 years of the AE86 Toyota Corolla sports car by introducing a limited-edition model of the GR86. The special-edition model does feature a few exclusive bits and is limited just to the Japanese market. The car chooses the buyer via a lottery system. Yes, you read that right!
The updated Toyota GR86 will soon be available on international markets. In UAE, The GR86 is not sold officially by Toyota. However, we can expect some importers in the country to bring a few models for the rear-wheel drive sports car enthusiasts.
GR86 Anniversary-Edition Updates
This version, based on the RZ model, will come in either white or red exterior colours with unique decals reminiscent of the red and black or white and black two-tone design of the AE86. Inside, there is a special logo that pays homage to the AE86’s history, along with various special decorations. Other changes include:
- EyeSight ADAS is now standard on manual transmission (MT) cars.
- A hands-free switch on the steering wheel is now standard, allowing for hands-free calls while driving.
- Blind-spot monitoring is available as an option on the SZ grade and standard on the RZ grade.
- Enhanced driving stability and safety during cornering by optimizing Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) settings.
- Brembo ventilated disc brakes (optional for SZ grade and above).
- SACHS (ZF) absorbers (optional for SZ grade and above).
- Improved controllability is achieved by adjusting electronic throttle output characteristics.
The rest of the car remains the same and continues to be powered by the 2.4-litre engine. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain produces a maximum of 228hp and 250Nm with power being sent to the rear wheels.
