Just last week, spy photographs surfaced showcasing a mysterious Audi R8 Sports Car. With two massive exhaust outlets poking out of the rear and an enlarged front grille, it was presumed to be an alternative V10 powerhouse believed to receive the GT badge, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
While nothing is set in stone, sources indicate that this Audi R8 Sports Car is an entry-level version. Reports suggest a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 hides beneath its elegant body borrowed from the Audi RS5 and RS4.
In those two models, the V6 produces a respectable 444 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque with select sources claiming the motor is more than capable of pumping out 500 horses and 540 Nm of torque.
Reports go on to suggest Audi won’t be offering a single power output but rather multiple offerings of horsepower to lure in customers.
When to expect the new Audi R8 Sports Car
If this is the case and there is a bi-turbo V6 mounted behind the seats, expect the R8 lineup to expand next year as this model will slot in underneath the standard V10 model and recently announced rear-wheel drive variant.
Range-topping Audi R8’s boast a V10 5.2-litre petrol engine rated at 533 horsepower driving each corner thanks to there token masterful Quattro system. Mated to a seven-speed S Tronic gearbox, these eye-catching sports cars launch to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds before maxing out at 320 km/h.
