Mercedes introduces AMG 53 lineup

Mercedes’s lineup just won’t stop growing. Over the past few years, they’ve added new classes to join the traditional C, E and S-Class as well as new trim levels most recently AMG 43. There’s another one on the way, this time carrying the AMG 53 moniker.

Slotting in between to the AMG 43 and AMG 63 models, the AMG 53 badge will make its grand debut as part of the CLS lineup this November.

Reports suggest the CLS 53 AMG is powered by a tuned straight six-cylinder petrol motor rated at 430 horsepower. Performance numbers have yet to surface; however, sources indicate a small electric motor will be present to improve fuel efficiency.

We also expect the new badge to find a home glued to the rear end of a hybrid variant further down the line.

After the CLS 53 debuts, expect more AMG 53 models to filter their way into the other classes including E in both coupe and convertible form. After that, we’re not too sure where to expect the badge to pop up elsewhere within the lineup.

Although, we wouldn’t be surprised seeing 53 badges appearing on S and C-Class models.

Mercedes first AMG 53 model is to debut later this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with sales expected to start shortly afterwards on home soil followed by other markets including the GCC region at a later date.
