The ever-expanding AMG GT just won’t stop. Four-doors, hardcore and S variants galore and seeing as the latter is only available as a coupe, it’s about time they added a drop-top version or as it is known as; the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster.
As with the rest of the lineup, a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 bellows beneath the bonnet and pushes out 515 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque to the rear axle via a seven-speed DCT transmission.
This allows the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds which is slightly slower compared to the GT C Roadster, but 0.2 seconds faster compared to the GT Roadster. Top speed also increases to 309 km/h, 6 km/h slower compared to the range-topping AMG GT.
Performance figures are not just aided by the engine as various areas of the vehicle receive an upgrade too. It includes the rear locking differential, aluminium wishbone axles, high-performance composite brake system and sport suspension.
Customers seeking more from the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster can opt for the AMG Dynamic Plus Package. With this fitted to the vehicle, dynamic engine and transmission mounts are added as is a wider peak horsepower band in ‘M’ and ‘Race’ modes, yellow highlights to the instrument cluster, improved sport suspension profile and a unique steering wheel wrapped in Dinamica microfibre.
AMG’s signature Chrome package is standard and adds a shiny finish to the front splitter, inlet grilles in the front bumper, fenders and diffuser. Furthermore, customers can add the AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package and Exterior Night package.
It sounds as of Mercedes have played close attention to the exterior, mechanical components and engine, but what about the interior? It’s identical to other AMG GT variants although as standard, it is fitted with the AMG Silver Chrome Interior package. Once again, customers can fit their roadster with the AMG Black Piano Lacquer interior, as well as AMG trim elements finished in carbon fibre, matte carbon fibre and silver fibre-glass.
The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster will arrive in showrooms late 2018 or early 2019 depending on the region.
