Mercedes-AMG four-door could get a V6

Last month, the entire world was treated to the concept of a Mercedes-AMG four-door concept to rival the Porsche Panamera. During the show, AMG bosses hinted that the model would potentially launch next year with a V8.

Borrowing the twin-turbocharged V8 from the two-door AMG-GT, the Mercedes-AMG four-door would make use of a hybrid power booster to pump out a whopping 805 horsepower. Recent reports suggest that it may not be the only option.

It appears a V6 motor is being considered and not just one. Mercedes-AMG is considering a twin-turbo petrol unit, a turbo diesel one and a hybrid version to perfectly match the Panamera lineup. It’s also unknown if the German brand will use a V formation or an inline setup for the cylinder banks.

Similar to the two-door, rear wheel drive will most likely be standard, and all-wheel drive will be available in higher trims.

Additionally, the Mercedes-AMG four-door will be based on the E-Class platform and inside, hints of the AMG GT will be evident alongside E-Class credentials.

Mercedes-AMG four-door models are not the only models to be added to the vehicle lineup. Reports have also surfaced that an enhanced Black Series model is destined for showrooms in 2018.

If you’re thinking the GT R and Black Series will clash, Mercedes-AMG has stated that the two models will be unique to one another.
