How do you celebrate 60 years of the 911 production run? You create a more mental version of the 911! As a part of the celebrations, Porsche has revealed a limited-edition model that pays homage to the iconic sports car and its ‘turned up to 11’ performance. Meet the Porsche 911 S/T that is inspired by the 911 GT3 Touring and 911 GT3 RS, bringing the best of both worlds to provide a unique combination of agility and driving dynamics.
The Porsche 911 S/T weighs just 1,380 kilograms making it the lightest model of the 992 generation. The lightness is paired with great performance, courtesy of the 4.0-litre boxer engine with a short-ratio manual transmission from the 911 GT3 RS.
The name 911 S/T is derived from the 1969 911 S, which was internally codenamed 911 ST. The original 911 ST introduced significant enhancements to the chassis, wheels, engine, and body, thereby improving overall performance. The new 911 S/T carries this legacy forward by blending elements of the 911 GT3 RS and 911 GT3 with Touring Package, incorporating specially developed lightweight components. Before we speak any further about the special-edition machine, let us briefly look at the illustrious history of the Porsche 911.
Porsche 911 History
The Porsche 911 is an iconic sports car with a rich history that dates back to 1963. Designed by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, the grandson of the company’s founder, the 911 quickly became a symbol of engineering excellence and performance. Its distinctive shape, characterized by a sloping rear and circular headlamps, has remained largely unchanged over the years, making it instantly recognizable.
Originally intended as a successor to the Porsche 356, the 911’s innovative rear-engine layout and superb handling quickly gained popularity among racing enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike. Over the decades, the Porsche 911 has evolved and improved through various generations, maintaining its reputation as a benchmark for sports car performance and it remains one of the most cherished and sought-after vehicles in automotive history.
Porsche 911 S/T’s Exterior Design
Lightness is the name of the game for the 911 S/T. Key components like the front bonnet, roof, front wings, and doors are constructed from lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP), enhancing performance. Other parts, such as the roll cage, rear axle anti-roll bar, and shear panel also utilize CFRP. Lighter components on the 911 S/T make it 40kg lighter than the 911 GT3 Touring. Buyers can choose a number from 0 to 99 for the decal that will be applied to the doors.
