Lexus reveal the 2019 ES, will likely replace the GS

After a handful of teases and leaks here, there and everywhere, Lexus has pulled the wraps off the 2019 ES. With a fresh look to boot, Lexus claims the latest ES not only looks new, but it’s also wider and longer compared to the outgoing model.

2019 ES vehicles are once again available in two guises; ES 350 and 300h. As with the previous generation, the 3.5-litre V6 returns although with a slight bump in power, up to 302 horsepower and 362 Nm of torque. A new 8-speed automatic gearbox replaces the six-speed gearbox, and front-wheel drive remains the norm. All-wheel drive is said to be in the works too.

As for the 300h, a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle inline-four drives the front end and pushes out 215 horses up from 200 hp.

New 2019 Es, new trim

The latest iteration of the Lexus ES-Series can no be fitted with F Sport trim. Opt for this, and the exterior styling gets a bit more aggressive while maintaining the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine. It is also fitted with Adaptive Variable Suspension borrowed from the LC Coupe, Sport+ drive setting and an Engine Sound Enhancement feature. The latter is exclusive to the 2019 ES F Sport.

Regarding the interior, the 2019 ES is fitted with what you would expect. High-grade leather, aluminium and real wood trim along with an 8.0-inch multimedia screen which can be switched with a 12.3-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa integration and optional Wi-Fi hotspot.

Other new highlights include a revised dashboard cluster and optional heads-up display. On the safety front, the executive saloon is equipped with Lexus’s token Saftey System+ 2.0 suite that comes with a pre-collision system and more.

Lexus is expected to show off the 2019 ES later today at the 2018 Bejing Auto Show. Pricing for the car has yet to be revealed and is expected to be revealed later this year as the saloon will go on sale in September 2018.
