Kia Stinger eyeing up Tesla Model 3

Kia may just have pulled the wraps on diesel and petrol version of the Kia Stinger in Detroit, but they still may have another surprise in store for those looking for an all-electric version.

So far, 3.3-litre V6 twin-turbo and four cylinder 2-litre turbo petrol motors have been confirmed along with 2-litre diesel models for select regions i.e. Europe and Korea. However, there could be an all-electric model someday.

Spencer Cho, head of overseas for Kia marketing mentioned in an interview in Detroit that the Kia Stinger “is capable of a full EV powertrain at a later date.”

Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the model has been confirmed but as the current direction of the auto industry is heading, an all-electric model would fit perfectly.

If and when the all-electric Kia Stinger launches, the South Korean brand has its eyes firmly on the sales of the Tesla Model S.

That appears not to be the tip of the iceberg as sources indicate autonomous technology could make its way into the Kia Stinger further down the line.

There’s still time to get yourself a new Kia or used Kia for sale in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi before the Stinger launches later this year.

2018 Kia Stinger vehicles are set to go on sale this Summer in the US with an unconfirmed price tag. GCC residents may have to wait a couple of weeks after that to get their hands on the South Koren four-door sports car. Unless you fancy importing one.
