Classic cars always make your head turn as they zip past, but you may be quite surprised to find out that not all are from yesteryear. Instead, they are modern day motors built by companies that continue to love all that style of many years ago, and one UAE based company wants in on this rather niche market with their take on mixing classic design with modern technology.
Inspired by vehicles of the 1950’s and 60’s, behind this luscious creation is Anthony Jannarelly, whom is also responsible for the ridiculously fast W Motors lykan and the brand new Fenyr and UAE’s latest sand monster, Zarooq’s Sand Racer. In order to make his dream a reality he’s partnered with Frederic Juillot, a car lover in his own right and custom boat manufacturer. They came together to fuse their idea of modern motoring with classic styling.
Constructed around a tubular steel chassis, light-weight aluminum panels and steel has been added for rollover and side-impact protection, its track-ready and road legal for those wanting the ultimate sports car feel.
Powering this creation is a six-cylinder 3.5-litre petrol engine creating 301 horsepower and 371 Nm of torque sourced from Nissan. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission (no automatic option is mentioned). All this power can propel the roadster from 0-100 km/h in just four seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h. The company have suggested that other engines can be put in, however, it has to “fit”.
Two versions are available, standard models come with all the necessary equipment: projector headlamps with LED indicators, rear fog lamps, horn, number plate lamp and a few more features.
The other version is the “early” special edition, available to order and is limited to just 30 units. This version will cost 55,000 USD (approx. 202,000 AED) and features everything standard models have. This version comes packed with features such as leather seats, carbon fibre aero kit, front windshield, chrome accessories, rear polycarbonate spoiler plus a few other bits here and there.
All vehicles are to be hand built in-house and will comply with UK rules from the Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) making them street-legal. Jannarelly Design-1 are to be built right here in the United Arab Emirates and can take three months to complete for standard models. Customers who want a bit extra may have to wait a while longer, but there is no doubt, it will be worth the wait.
This is not the only “classic modern” car currently in production or out there on the roads. Morgan still creates absolutely gorgeous modern day classics such as the Morgan Aero Coupe, Roadster and Plus 4, all of which are available to purchase right now. Then there is the revived Alvis brand with their Alvis Vanden Plas Tourer plus a few more models to come at a later date.
The Jannarelly Design-1 is scheduled to be unveiled in February next year with final production units being shipped to early customers in the summer of 2016. Pricing for standard models have yet to be revealed, as mentioned before, early adopters can expect to pay 55,000 USD
