It appears Infiniti is jumping on the bandwagon of the current trend of hybrid or all-electric sports car. Word has spread that an Infiniti all-electric sports car is currently in the pipeline and is set to debut as early as 2020.
While there is no clear information of the vehicle, Roland Kruger, head of Infiniti has personally driven a prototype of an Infiniti all-electric sports car that the Japanese brand is currently working on.
Kruger implied that the upcoming vehicle will retain Infiniti’s focus on creating an equal share between performance and handling within its structure to create the ultimate vehicle.
Infiniti’s boss kept a tight lip on what to expect. However, he did drop a possible hint that the upcoming Infiniti all-electric sports car is to built on a new platform and will not be part of any current model series. There were also possible hints that the brand could utilise electric powertrains from Nissan as they have a wealth of information about them.
2012 saw the brand unveil a hybrid-powered concept dubbed the Emerg-E Prototype powered by a combination of hybrid and two-electric motors generating an impressive 402 horsepower and a whopping 1,000 Nm of torque. It’s unknown if the Infiniti all-electric sports car will retain these figures or if the brand will offer lower outputs with a lower base price.
We sure hope the Emerg-E’s design stays come 2020.
