GIMS Qatar 2023: Omoda C5 EV Showcased At Geneva International Motor Show Qatar

Chinese car manufacturer, Omoda, part of the Chery Automotive group has showcased the C5 EV electric SUV at the GIMS Qatar 2023 for the first time in the Middle East region. The Omoda C5 EV is expected to be launched in the Middle Eastern region sometime early next year. However, the brand has not revealed many details about the new EV.

The mid-size electric SUV borrows its design and styling from its petrol-powered counterpart. However, there are no Chery badges on the SUV as the Omoda brand branches out as its own entity. The sleek-looking DRL and a closed grille flanked with triangular-shaped lighting arrangement complete the front look of the SUV.

From the side, the sloping roof-line and the blacked-out pillars give the C5 EV a sporty SUV look that looks aggressive and modern. The rear spoiler is a bit overstyled for the SUV and could have been done with a more subtle touch. The rear taillamps are connected via a lightbar giving the SUV a wide stance from the rear.

On the inside, the tech-fest car cabins continue with two 12.3-inch displays merged together to form a large 24.6-inch curved screen for the instrument cluster and infotainment display. The overall cabin feels premium and airy mainly due to the leather upholstery and panoramic sunroof.

As for the powertrain, the details are yet to be revealed by Omoda. An official from the brand got in touch with us and informed us that the C5 EV will feature a maximum claimed range of 450km from a 61kWh battery pack paired to a 165KW motor. The electric powertrain will produce 221hp and 340Nm. The SUV can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds. The electric powertrain features DC fast charging that juices up the battery from 10% to 80% in around 35 minutes.

Omoda is expected to launch the C5 EV sometime next year in the UAE and will go against other EVs that will be introduced in the market including the Exeed ET electric SUV.
