Chinese-Swedish car manufacturer Lynk & Co showcased some of its products at the GIMS Qatar 2023. This marked the Middle-East debut for Lynk & Co and the brand is expected to launch its cars in the UAE and other GCC nations by 2024.
Lynk & Co is an automotive brand formed by the joint venture between Geely Auto Group & Volvo Car Group. The brand produces cars that cater to several segments and most of its cars feature funky designs & styling. The brand is also known for its numerical naming convention and so, its first car was named Lynk & Co 01 and the second one was named 02, and so on.
At the Geneva International Motor Show Qatar 2023, Lynk & Co showcased the Lynk & Co 01, Lynk & Co 03+, Lynk & Co 05 and Lynk & Co 09.
Lynk & Co 01
The 01 is a compact crossover SUV. It was the first car developed by Lynk & Co and was first launched in 2017. It underwent a facelift in 2021 and then another redesign in 2022. In typical Lynk & Co fashion, the headlamps are mounted right on top. The Lynk & Co 01 is currently available with petrol, hybrid, and PHEV powertrain options.
The highest-performance engine on offer is the T4 EVO which is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol inline-4 engine producing 215hp and 325Nm. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The hybrid and PHEV options are powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit combined with an electric motor.
Other features include:
- Traffic Jam Assistant
- Highway Assistant
- Emergency Lane-Keeping Assistant
- Cabin Air Purifier
- 12.3-inch instrument cluster
- 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment
- Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Lynk & Co 05
The 05 is a compact coupe SUV based on the 01. At first glance, one might even think of it as the Lynk & Co 01. However, there are a few subtle differences that set it apart. It is built on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture platform which also underpins the likes of the Volvo XC40.
It is available with a 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain and those interested in more performance can opt for the bigger 2.0-litre T4 engine. A high-performance version is also available. Called the Lynk & Co 05+, the SUV is powered by a tuned-up version of the 2.0-litre engine producing 265hp and 380Nm.
Lynk & Co 09
It is currently the largest SUV in the Lynk & Co product lineup. It went into production in 2021 and shares its underpinnings with the likes of the Volvo XC90 as both of them are based on the Volvo SPA platform. Buyers can configure the SUV to fit six or seven seats. The Lynk & Co 09 features a 12.8-inch touchscreen for infotainment while instrumentation duties are taken care of by a 12.3-inch display.
There are three powertrain options to choose from and all three are based on the same 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-4 engine. The first is a mild hybrid powertrain with a 48-volt battery. The second is a conventional hybrid which includes an electric motor and a battery for assisted driving however, the battery can only be charged by regenerative braking. The third and most advanced option is a PHEV wherein the battery can be charged using an external socket.
Lynk & Co 03+
The 03 is a compact sedan manufactured by Lynk & Co. Keeping in mind the needs of performance enthusiasts, Lynk & Co launched a high-performance version of the little sedan. Named the 03+, it is powered by a tuned-up version of the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-4 engine found in other Lynk & Co products.
In the 03+, it produces 261hp and 380Nm. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic and the sedan is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds. The 03+ was the centre of attraction at the Lynk & Co pavilion at GIMS 2023 and is one of the much-awaited cars in the Middle-East market.
