Kia continues their efforts to green mobility with the premiere of the EV9 electric SUV for the Middle Eastern region. This is the first time the EV9’s production version was showcased in this part of the world and GIMS Qatar 2023 served as the perfect platform. Along with the EV9, Kia also showcased the EV5 Concept, EV6 and a couple of other ICE-powered cars in their portfolio at the Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar.
Kia EV9
The EV9 is a full-size SUV that features a retro-styled boxy design which is a quirk in itself. The electric SUV is globally offered in two electric powertrain options and two battery capacity options. The standard range model features a rear-wheel-driven single motor setup paired with a 76.1kWh battery pack producing 215hp and 350Nm. It is expected to return a range of over 350km per charge.
As for the long-range EV9 models, they are offered in either RWD or AWD dual-motor setup. Both feature the larger 99.8kWh battery pack.
EV9 RWD Long Range
- Max Power: 201hp
- Peak Torque: 350Nm
- 0 to 100km/h: 9.4 seconds
EV9 AWD Long Range
- Max Power: 380hp
- Peak Torque: 600Nm
- 0 to 100km/h: 6 seconds
Both models feature a claimed range of over 550km per charge. The EV9 uses the 800-volt architecture and features 230kW DC fast charging. As for the Middle-Easter market, Kia could bring the long-range models of the EV9 to offer maximum range and performance.
Kia EV5 Concept
As mentioned before, Kia also showcased the EV5 electric SUV concept. Like the EV9, the EV5 is also a born EV from the brand and is expected to be production-ready by next year. The EV5’s powertrain details are yet to be revealed. It is expected to feature a rear-mounted electric motor producing 220hp and 310Nm. Also, the EV5 could use the cost-effective 400V architecture as opposed to the 800V layout on the larger EV9. Here are more details about the EV5 Concept.
