This past Tuesday, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has added an additional bonus for electric car owners or those currently in the market for an EV, which will reduce the costs of owning said vehicle.
The RTA will now provide 70 free parking spaces exclusively for environmentally-friendly vehicles in 40 paid parking zones across the Emirate of Dubai. We can’t pinpoint each and every location for you, but we’re aware of these green highlighted spaces can be found in Dubai Marina, Trade Centre area, Burj Khalifa, Jumeirah Street, Central Business Districts and Shaikh Zayed Road.
Drivers can spot the difference between these special spaces and regular ones thanks to bold lettering in both Arabic and English and green outline. Only eco-friendly cars are allowed to use these spaces for up to four hours. Cars parked in these spaces that are not eco-friendly vehicles will incur a fine.
The free parking initiative is part of the Authority’s first phase catering towards environmentally-friendly cars and is part of Dubai’s Green mobility plan to reduce carbon emissions and boost sales of electric cars.
Free parking is not the only benefit buyers of EV’s benefit from, as customers also benefit from free registration, zero annual renewal fees and a free Salik tag.
The RTA’s eco-friendly plan will also see 50% of the city’s taxi fleet with green cars by 2021. Currently, 20% of the RTA’s fleet are hybrid vehicles,
