Performance-derived SUV’s seem to be a ‘thing’ nowadays; Range Rover has the SVR, Lamborghini is building their second one, Lotus is said to be building one and Ferrari can’t make up their mind if they want to or not. But all of those are not on the list for the everyday commuter. That’s about to change as reports suggest a Ford Explorer ST is in the works.
Ford, who is no stranger to sporty variants will reportedly drop a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 borrowed from the Lincoln Contintial and MKZ. In these two models, the motor pumps out 400 horsepower and 542 Nm of torque, but once it nestles into the Ford Explorer, it’s said to receive a slight boost.
Is there anything else for the Ford Explorer ST?
Looking at other ST models Ford currently pieces together; we can also expect the enhanced SUV to proudly show off an aggressive body kit, enlarged rims and a few sporty interior changes too. We wouldn’t be surprised to find upgraded suspension, steering and brakes on the model either with a few other tweaks here and there.
It looks like we can look forward to the Expo 2020 in two years time and the launch of the potent Ford Explorer ST.
It is suggested the model will hit the assembly line early 2019 and will roll out towards the end of 2019 as a 2020 model.
What’s next for the ST lineup? Eco-Sport perhaps? Maybe the Escape is a more viable option.
