Ferrari has revealed the newest addition to its One-Off series, the Ferrari SP-8. The new supercar is part of Ferrari’s Special Projects programme and crafted by the Ferrari Styling Centre. The SP-8 is a mid-rear-engined V8 supercar based on the F8 Spider borrowing its layout, chassis, and engine.
The one-off SP-8 will be part of an exclusive garage belonging to a customer hailing from Taiwan. Also, the number 8 on the supercar is considered an extremely lucky number in Chinese culture.
Ferrari SP-8 Exteriors
The standout feature of the SP-8 is its roofless design, making it a pure two-seater roadster. The team didn’t just take the metal-folding roof off the Spider, instead, they used CFD simulations, wind tunnel tests, and track trials to ensure a level of acoustic comfort and wind sensation on par with the F8 Spider.
The SP-8 boasts unpainted carbon-fibre panels, creating a striking two-tone effect. Its exterior showcases a unique matte Argento Micalizzato colour complementing the carbon fibre with a glossy iridescent Blue Sandstone finish. The custom Blu Scuro Stellato colour linking the two body sections is exclusive to this car.
At the front of the car, there’s a bold grille made from a single 3D-printed mould of cast aluminium. The grille has vertical strakes that widen toward the sides to improve airflow to the front radiators. Other changes on the Ferrari SP-8 include:
- Redesigned headlights with special masks and lenses
- Rear lights borrowed from the Roma with specific lenses
- Revamped windscreen
- Tailpipes treated similarly to the 296 GTB
- Specially designed wheel rims in matte Grigio NART colour
The SP-8 pays tribute to the iconic Ferrari F40 with exclusive five-spoke wheels, offering a modern take on the classic F40 rims. The large openings on the wheels are designed to reduce weight.
Ferrari SP-8 Interiors
Inside, they modified the central console to include F1 gearbox commands from the SF90 Stradale. This required changing the iconic shift-gate. The seats have laser-etched Navy Blue Alcantara details with gradient effect cloth, and the carpets use a special twill fabric with a luminous effect.
Ferrari SP-8 Engine & Performance
As mentioned earlier, the SP-8 uses the same engine as the F8 Tributo. The supercar is powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the rear wheels.
Max Power | 710hp |
Peak Torque | 770Nm |
Acceleration [0 to 100km/h] | 2.9 seconds |
Top Speed | 340km/h |
The SP-8 will be showcased at the Mugello Circuit from 24 October to 30 October 2023 at the Finali Mondiali Ferrari racing series. Following this, it will also be exhibited at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello from 16 November 2023, until March 2024.
