First batch of Expo branded number plates to be auctioned off

Later this week, a special batch of number plates will be auctioned off by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for the first time.

What makes these plates so special is that they’ll have the Expo 2020 logo adorning them.

Registration for the auction starts today (22/09/2019) with the event starting this Saturday (28/09/19) at 4:30 pm at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City Hotel.

Interested parties looking to bid at the auction must register online via the RTA or with any of the RTA’s customer happiness centres in Deira, Al Barsha and Umm Ramool.

Registration for the event will also be available on the day from 2 pm onwards.

During the auction, 20 plates with the Expo logo will go under the hammer as well as 100 other exclusive number plates with two, three, four and five digits.

Plates going up for sale will bear letters from H to Z with the exception of J and Y letters.

“The plate numbers that will carry the Expo logo were chosen to help spread awareness about the world’s greatest show.” Said Najeeb Mohammed Al Ali, Executive Director of Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau.

All plates at the auction are subject to five percent VAT. Interested parties must have a valid traffic file in Dubai and deposit a cheque for AED 25,000 addressed to the Roads and Transport Authority.

Bidders will also have to pay a fee of AED 120 (non-refundable). The amount can be paid online via the RTA’s website, the Dubai Drive app or at customer happiness centres.

More information about the special auction is available via the call centre – 800 90 90.
