The word Restomod is derived from restoration and modification. It essentially involves restoring a classic car while changing its appearance and its performance. Eccentrica however, seems to have taken the word to another dimension. The brand’s new creation is named Eccentrica Restomod, and is based on the legendary Lamborghini Diablo.
The 1990s witnessed the debut of many iconic supercars, and the Lamborghini Diablo stands out as one of the most desired ones. Here’s our list of supercars from the 90s that redefined speed and performance. In this edition of Exotic Cars on Dubicars, we take a closer look at the Eccentrica Restomod based on the Lamborghini Diablo.
The Eccentrica Story
The Lamborghini Diablo made its grand entrance in 1990, succeeding the revered Lamborghini Countach. This new supercar quickly became a symbol of high performance and exotic styling, capturing the imaginations of car enthusiasts worldwide. Powered by a 485hp, 5.7-litre V12 engine, the Diablo was the fastest production car of its time, with a top speed of 325 km/h. It’s this remarkable machine the Eccentrica Restomod is based on.
The project originated from the passion of Emanuel Colombini, President of Eccentrica Cars. Colombini is a classic car collector and a race driver in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series, so he sure knows what he’s doing. Milan-based BorromeodeSilva studio handled Eccentrica’s design, while technical development was entrusted to a team of internationally renowned engineering experts.
Eccentrica debuted internationally at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2023, capturing the attention of car aficionados. On May 10, 2024, it made its regional debut in the UAE, in partnership with Pupil of Fate Motors in Dubai. This restomod promises to maintain the essence of the original Diablo while integrating modern enhancements, and it surely doesn’t disappoint.
Design & Styling
The Eccentrica Restomod draws inspiration from the sporty Diablo GTR, taking its aggressive stance to new heights. One of the most striking features is the unique pop-down headlights, a playful twist on the classic pop-up design of the Diablo and many other supercars of yore.
Except for the front windshield, the bodywork is completely revised and the car now rides on stylish 19-inch five-spoke wheels that complement its bold aesthetic. It has, thankfully, retained Lamborghini’s signature scissor doors. Large vents on the sides ensure the cooling systems receive fresh and cold air, while dual air scoops on the roof force-feed air into the intake manifolds.
The rear grille, crafted using 3D printing technology, houses quad circular LED tail lamps, and at the bottom are the dual exhaust outlets from the Capristo exhaust system. All this put together, creates a visually stunning and aerodynamically efficient design.
Interior
The Eccentrica Restomod’s cabin is a harmonious blend of 90s minimalism and modern luxury. The analogue-looking digital gauges are reminiscent of classic 1990s video games, offering a nostalgic yet sophisticated feel. The interior is finished in premium materials like leather and Alcantara, showcasing Italian craftsmanship.
The meticulous crafting of every detail, from the seats to the central tunnel, showcases the dedication to quality and design. A highlight of the interior is the machined manual gear shifter, a nod to the purists who appreciate the tactile connection between driver and machine.
Engine & Performance
Powering the Eccentrica Restomod is a revamped 5.7-litre Lamborghini V12 engine. With new valves and camshafts, the engine is now more responsive and powerful, producing an impressive 550hp at 7,000 rpm and 600Nm at 6,500 rpm.
Paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, this enhancement allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, and it will go on to a claimed top speed of 335 km/h. Equipped with an upgraded suspension system, Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, and Brembo brakes, the Eccentrica offers unparalleled handling. The reinforced chassis ensures stability and precision, making this restomod not only a head-turner but also a formidable performer.
Verdict
The Eccentrica Restomod is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Lamborghini Diablo. It retains the spirit of the original while infusing it with modern design and improved dynamics. A car that honors its heritage but fully equips to thrill a new generation of supercar enthusiasts is the result.
Exclusivity & Pricing
In the world of premium automobiles, exclusivity is key, and the Eccentrica Restomod perfectly caters to those seeking it. Eccentrica will produce only 19 units, each tailored to the specifications of its owner. To acquire one, prospective buyers must provide a donor Lamborghini Diablo, and the restomod process will cost between AED 2.9 million and AED 4.5 million.
