Cameras in Ajman to catch drivers with expired registration

Shortly after the UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi announced cameras will snap a picture of motorists with expired registration, Ajman is following suit. Ajman police will shortly implement an identical system as part of ‘Ajman is a Safe City’ project.

From July 1st, 2018, the new cameras will take a picture of the vehicle with expired documents and will issue an AED 500 fine, four black points and the vehicle will be impounded for seven days.

“The new move to the new digital system will help save time and strengthen road safety,” said Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Deputy Director of Police Operations in Ajman. “Motorists are urged to renew expired registration to avoid fines and unpaid insurance claims in the unfortunate event of an accident,” he added.

Ajman is a Safe City

Commencing in 2016, the project has seen 450 video cameras installed on main roads and select areas across the Emirate during the first phase. Having signed an agreement with Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Atlas Telecom, Ajman’s city surveillance has drastically increased.

Furthermore, CCTV surveillance systems are being installed across the Emirate of Ajman in order to strengthen security and stop crimes. With that said, Ajman Police will have wider and deeper coverage of whats happening in the Emirate which results in improved response times, increased transparency while also further aiding investigations and tracking.

These cameras will also monitor traffic flow.
