Even though Bugatti has officially announced that no Roadster version of the 2018 Bugatti Chiron is on the table, that doesn’t mean the bespoke sports car manufacturer is ready to expand to include another hypercar in its lineup or a new body shape entirely.
Previously, speculation highlighted that a sedan was in the works for the Volkswagen-owned brand. Known as the Bugatti Galibier, current CEO Wolfgang Durheimer wanted the four door model to go into production back in 2011! So what happened to that? Durheimer moved to Audi in 2013, and his replacement scrapped the project to focus on the Chiron instead. Now that Mr Wolfgang is back, he wants the Galibier to go into production or does he.
Reports also suggest the hypercar company could build an all-electric luxury car to rival those up-and-coming ones, for example, the Porsche Mission E even though if Bugatti would blow that out of the water. Another body style which appears to pop up is an SUV. Even though they have said no in the past, the French brand could jump on the bandwagon.
The fourth and final body style the brand is considering is another vehicle that would slot in underneath the upcoming Chiron and would serve as an ‘entry level’ version providing a platform for a few more potential customers to get their hands on a Bugatti.
Out of all four of them, only the Galibier’s outputs are known. When announced, it was to utilise the Veyron engine, but seeing as the Chiron uses a throbbing 8.0-litre W16 quad turbocharged petrol motor spewing out an insane 1500 hp. Expect any of these models to launch with an identical engine with a lower output.
