The latest M5 and M5 Competition BMW’s are on their way, and already a select few have had a go behind the wheel of the latest M5. We’ll have to wait until it arrives in the UAE, but until then, BMW has released a massive gallery of images for us to salivate over.
Of course, we’re talking about the latest M5 Competition. Similar to the “standard” M5 which has proved its performance credentials, the M5 Competition is a serious piece of kit.
Throwing down 625 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, which is on par with select supercars including the Ferrari 458 Speciale, and is just shy of the latest 488 GTB. All of this thanks to a 4.40litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine driving each corner via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The M5 Competition needs just 3.3 seconds to hit 100 km/h from standstill, and 10.8 seconds to hit the 200 km/h mark. Those are pretty close to supercar sprint times, and unlike the two-seaters where you can scare just one passenger, the M5 Competition seats four occupants plus the driver allowing for even more shocked faces by kilometre.
And thanks to the new M xDrive switchable traction system, the M5 drifts through corners with ease.
This past weekend, automotive journalists from around the world have been experiencing the new performance saloon first hand at the Ascari Race Resort and surrounding roads in Malaga, Spain.
