After ten long years, Audi has finally jumped on the SUV Coupe bandwagon with the 2019 Q8. Better late than never right? It won’t be easy for the German company as it will lock horns with BMW and Mercedes-Benz and their X6 and GLE Coupe respectively.
Arriving later this year for European customers, the 2019 Q8 measures in at 4.99 meters in length, 2 metres wide and stands 1.71 metres tall making wider, lower and shorter compared to Q7. Riding on a wheelbase of close to 3 metres, the cabin is said to be more spacious compared to its rivals.
Similar to other upcoming vehicles from various manufacturers, the automotive world has known for some time. But, we still fell the need to inform you what’s to come.
Starting with the front, a prominent single-frame grille with an octagonal pattern is flanked by standard LED headlights (HD Matrix LED’s are optional). Moving further along, the latest Audi has a sloping roofline, ‘Quattro blisters’ above the wheel arches, dynamic rear spoiler, rear light strip and a multitude of rim designs all the way up to 22-inches.
We not going to say to can glide through the desert, however, there is 254 mm of ground clearance, hill descent control and short overhangs do allow for some minor off-road excursions.
Additionally, the 2019 Q8 does come with progressive steering as standard and a new mild hybrid technology which can recover up to 12 kW of power while braking.
A plethora of tech for Audi’s 2019 Q8
Inside, the model comes equipped with plenty buttons, dials and screens for all to enjoy. Key highlights include the two MMI systems measuring in at 10.1- and 8.6-inches, 12.3-inch virtual cockpit display, Bang & Olufsen advanced sound system, multi-zone climate control and the optional contour lighting and contour seats with massage function and cooling.
Audi doesn’t take shortcuts when it comes to safety and the 2019 Q8 is no exception. Drivers will have at their fingertips, adaptive cruise control, remote garage pilot as well as lane change warning, efficiency assist, 360-degree camera, curb warning and crossing assist.
We’re aware of three powerplants, one petrol and two diesel. Two of those three are 3.0-litre units, the 55 TFSi and 50 TDI rated at 335 horsepower and 282 horses respectively. The third and final motor is another diesel which is due to arrive next year. These 45 TDI versions will pack 228 hp.
