Apple CarPlay added to certain 2017 BMW models

Apple products, Apple products everywhere! Everywhere you go at least every third person you see has an Apple product either in their hand or on their person. It’s only far that the tech giant is now slithering their way into vehicles. While it is not a brand new system, it is to the BMW lineup.

In the US, adding Apple CarPlay to ones BMW costs $300 or AED 1101. For those unclear on what Apple CarPlay is, it’s a unique way of connecting your iOS device to the vehicle’s entertainment system to display applications exclusive to the instrument such as maps. It also allows fluid motion between the two, allowing users to effortless use the products.

Oddly enough, the new system is not available on all models. BMW 2-series, 3-series, 6-series, 7-series and both the X5 and X6 can be equipped with the system. 4-series, 5-series, X1, X3, X4 and the i8, are all left out even though they all used similar infotainment systems in top trim. However, over time this could change, and we could see the technology spill into these models with an identical price tag.

Previously, only two models were fitted with the system, the BMW 230i and M240i. Both of which rolled out earlier this year.

As for Android Auto, it is unknown when that would be made available. With Apple CarPlay thrown into the mix, BMW has a slight advantage over home rivals such as Mercedes-Benz and Audi. However, that will be short lived as it’s only a matter of time when the two also implement the feature if they haven’t done so already.

Hi Umair, we are also unsure when the feature will launch in UAE models as a lot of our news comes from the States.
