During the current global situation, a nasty habit has started to occur within the UAE. So vile it makes us cringe just thinking about it. And yes, we’re talking about people throwing their used masks and gloves on out of their car and on to the floor.
How hard is it to put them in the bin? Surely it can’t be that difficult.
If you or you happen to know someone who does this, make note that as of last week, it is a fineable offence as per the Abu Dhabi Police.
Anyone caught disposing of used gloves or face masks put of their car window will be given an AED 1,000 fine and six black points added to their license.
“The masks and gloves pose a threat to public health and the environment. They may have been contaminated and may lead to the spread of diseases,” the Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement.
“People should avoid such bad behaviours in order to protect the environment and the civilisational appearance of cities.” Said the police
Dr Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesperson of the UAE health sector, on Wednesday, condemned reports of some residents littering masks and gloves.
“Such behaviours of littering masks are bad and we condemn them. The masks can be contaminated which contributes to the spread of coronavirus,” she said.
“Masks should be disposed of properly in waste bins. There is a need to promote good behaviours among the community.”
Dubai Authorities and Dubai Police will also issue anyone driving a car without wearing a mask an AED 1,000 fine.
