Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has started to roll out free self-service refuelling across petrol stations located in Abu Dhabi, and it’s precisely what you think it is.
From now on, if you stop to fill up in the nation’s capital, you’ll have to get out and pump your own petrol. Attendants will still be available, but if you want them to do it, you’ll have to pay a small fee of AED 10.
Elderly residents and People of Determination are not subject to paying the fee across all ADNOC petrol stations located around the UAE’s capital.
Residents of Abu Dhabi who have used the service have had mixed emotions with some saying “instead of speeding up the process, they spent a few minutes figuring out how the system works.” Whereas other praised the new system saying its a “step in the right direction.”
But how does one pay if refuelling is done by one’s self? ADNOC has introduced a smart wallet and Smart Tag with the latter being fitted to one’s vehicle. The first 200,000 drivers who apply for the ADNOC Smart Tag will receive theirs for free. After the quota is reached, those who register later will incur a small fee that has yet to be revealed.
How to obtain an ADNOC Smart Tag
- Register via their website for an ADNOC Wallet Account.
- Add at least AED 50 or to your ADNOC Wallet Account.
- Arrange an appointment online to schedule the installation and be sure to keep the work order PIN handy.
- Head to your nearest Smart Tag installation centre with your vehicle registration card, Emirates ID and work order PIN.
