Abandoned Vehicles In Dubai’s Testing Centres To Be Seized: Dubai Municipality Issues Alerts

The Dubai Municipality has launched an initiative to address abandoned vehicles in Dubai. To maintain urban aesthetics and streamline public spaces, authorities have issued notices to owners of neglected/abandoned vehicles at testing and registration centres in Dubai. Dubai Municipality will seize and place the neglected cars in impound if they aren’t moved.

This crackdown comes as part of a campaign by the Dubai Municipality aimed at monitoring and removing neglected or abandoned vehicles from nine key registration and testing centres across the city. The initiative is not only intended to declutter these facilities but also to enhance the overall image of the city, in line with Dubai’s reputation for cleanliness and order.

Why Are Cars Abandoned In Dubai’s Testing Centres?

Dubai has one of the most robust vehicle testing infrastructures in the world. Cars in Dubai require their registrations to be renewed every year. In order to be eligible for renewal of registration, the car must pass the RTA renewal inspection test, also known locally as ‘passing.’

These inspection tests occur at several testing centres like Tasjeel across the Emirate. Here’s everything you need to know about Tasjeel and its services. The test centres thoroughly test the car on several parameters before producing its result. Well-maintained vehicles that meet all requirements pass the test while others don’t.

Owing to failed test results or just pure neglect, many vehicle owners leave their cars at the parking yard of these centres for extended periods. These abandoned vehicles often become an eyesore and contribute to congestion, hindering the smooth operation of the testing centres. Additionally, such neglect can lead to environmental hazards, including leakage of hazardous fluids.

Dubai Municipality’s Solution To Abandoned Vehicles

In response, Dubai Municipality has issued a stern warning to vehicle owners. Those who fail to clear their neglected vehicles from the designated centres will face strict penalties. The authorities have implemented a structured procedure for the removal of these vehicles, which includes issuing warnings, placing stickers on the abandoned cars, and ultimately towing them away if owners do not comply within the stipulated time frame.

This proactive approach underscores the municipality’s commitment to preserving the city’s image and ensuring that public spaces are used efficiently. It also sends a clear message to vehicle owners about the importance of adhering to regulations and taking responsibility for their property.

Dubai Municipality has urged the public to cooperate with this initiative and report any abandoned vehicles they come across. This collective effort is expected to contribute significantly to the city’s cleanliness and operational efficiency at testing centres.
