Last week, the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai or RTA created a system to enable buying and selling a car much easier by allowing customers to pay online. As of next month, the Authority will implement another innovative feature to simplify another process; car registration.
Come the 15th of August 2016; the RTA will now allow drivers to renew their registration online or through many self-service kiosks found around the Emirate. Vehicles no more than three years can be registered through this system, and the government department states that this will be the only way to register one’s car if it falls into the criteria mentioned above.
Those who own a car older than the three-year threshold will have to physically visit a customer service centre to register the vehicle.
Exact documents aren’t known as such, however, seeing as you need to have a copy of your Emirates ID, Passport and Visa, these documents should be in order during the online process.
From next month, two other services will be online-only; applying for new registration card if the current one is lost or destroyed and keeping that unique license plate you purchased.
If this sounds familiar, the RTA did launch a similar feature last year. However, this was only made available to those who owned a fleet of cars.
Customers can also access all the services through the RTA Drivers and Vehicles app available on smartphones.
