Maserati MC20 Review: Italian Flair Dominates Maserati’s First Production Supercar

It is the first mid-engined supercar made by Maserati since the mental Maserati MC12 that was produced in 2004 & 2005. If that wasn’t lucrative enough, it is one of the best-looking cars produced by the storied Italian luxury car manufacturer. Yes, we’re rambling on about the Maserati MC20 and despite it being around for a few years now, the supercar is quite special.

Maserati is a storied Italian luxury car manufacturer with a 110-year history in motorsport and in producing some of the most glamorous cars in the world. In this edition of Exotic Cars on DubiCars, we take a closer look at this gorgeous Maserati MC20 listed by Evo Motors on DubiCars.

The Maserati MC20 Story

Maserati rose to fame because of its success in the world of Motorsport. However, its road cars were all GT cars (Grand Tourers) until 1971. This was when the brand launched its very first mid-engined sports car named the Maserati Bora. The Bora remained in production until 1978. Maserati also produced the Merak SS which was based on the Bora, until 1983.

However, Maserati didn’t look at producing another mid-engined car for a couple of decades. In 2004, the Maserati MC12 went into production. This was a proper racecar for the road, primarily because it was produced for homologation purposes as Maserati wanted to race it in the FIA GT Championship. A total of 50 Maserati MC12s were produced in two years.

Maserati MC12 & MC20

In 2020, the Maserati MC20 was first revealed and a racing version was also announced. Given that the MC12 was a homologation special, the MC20 is literally the first-ever series production mid-engined Maserati supercar. That makes it rather special indeed.

Design & Styling

From the very first glance, the MC20 captivates with its sleek and aerodynamic profile. It combines elegance with aggression, featuring sharp lines and a low stance. The front fascia is dominated by the iconic Maserati trident, flanked by slim sweptback LED headlamps, giving it an aggressive yet elegant presence on the road.

The sculpted lines and aerodynamic elements not only enhance the aesthetics of the MC20 but also contribute to its impressive performance. It rides on super stylish 20-inch Corsa Gloss Dark Miron forged alloy wheels with 245-section tyres up front and wider 305-section tyres at the rear.

Maserati MC20 Rear Design

At the rear, aerodynamic elements such as the rear diffuser and spoiler are seamlessly incorporated, ensuring the car not only looks good but also performs well at high speeds. The lip spoiler, classy LED tail lamps, and dual exhaust outlets are a great combination. This particular car is the only one finished in the Blu Infinito shade with Blu brake calipers on sale in the UAE.

Interior

Even before you enter the car, the butterfly doors add an element of drama, making entry and exit a unique experience. Once inside, the Maserati MC20 continues to impress. The cabin features high-quality materials like Alcantara and carbon fiber used extensively. The blue highlights add a sporty touch.

The cockpit is driver-centric and is designed to give the driver the best driving experience with minimal button placement. Instrumentation is handled by a 10.2-inch display while a floating 10.25-inch touchscreen display takes care of infotainment needs.

Engine & Performance

At the heart of the MC20 is the all-new Nettuno engine, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6. It is an engineering masterpiece, featuring Formula 1 technology such as the pre-chamber combustion system.

Engine Specs & Performance Numbers:

  • 621hp @ 7,500rpm
  • 730Nm @ 3,000rpm
  • 0-100km/h: 2.9 Seconds
  • Top Speed: 325km/h

It is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which provides lightning-fast gear changes and drives the rear wheels, which makes the driving experience a little more lively. The MC20’s lightweight construction, achieved through the extensive use of carbon fibre and other advanced materials keeps its weight in check at around 1,700 kilograms. This, combined with a finely tuned suspension system, results in exceptional handling and agility.

Maserati has also equipped the MC20 with driving modes, allowing drivers to tailor the car’s performance to their preferences. From the comfort-oriented GT mode to the track-focused Corsa mode, the MC20 is adaptable to a variety of driving conditions. The inclusion of an electronic limited-slip differential further enhances the car’s traction and stability, ensuring that power is delivered efficiently to the road.

Maserati MC20 Performance

On winding roads, the MC20 shines with its sharp handling and balanced chassis. The suspension setup strikes a perfect balance between comfort and performance, absorbing road imperfections while maintaining excellent body control. The car’s carbon-ceramic brakes provide immense stopping power, giving the driver confidence to push the limits.

Verdict

The Maserati MC20 blends stunning aesthetics with cutting-edge technology and breathtaking performance in typical Italian flair. It is a statement of intent from Maserati, signaling a bold new direction that embraces the future while honoring the past. It is a car that appeals to both the heart and the mind, delivering a driving experience that is as thrilling as it is refined.
