Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the 3rd edition of Dubai’s Best Sustainable Transport Means Photo Competition. The competition focuses on the theme of “Mobility in Dubai” and is held in collaboration with the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Awards (HIPA).
This year’s contest will harness the power of photography to promote awareness about the significance of sustainable transportation. Photographers, photography enthusiasts, residents, tourists, and public transport users can join the competition by capturing the beauty of Dubai’s public transport including the metro, tram, public buses, and water transport like the water bus, water taxi, ferry, and abra.
Yousef Al Rida, CEO of the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, RTA, said, “The competition, which coincides with the Year of Sustainability 2023, aims to encourage residents, tourists, and particularly public transport users to showcase Dubai’s sustainable transportation through their smartphone lenses. The contest highlights the experiences of public transport pioneers via photography. At the same time, it promotes the public transport means of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority as a blend of leisure and transport. The public can take part in the contest using personal accounts on Instagram using the hashtag #RTAxHIPA.”
How To Participate?
The competition has two categories: a portfolio and a single photo. Here are the details for each category:
1. Portfolio Category: Participants are required to submit a collection of 5 images.
2. Single Photo Category: For this category, only a single image is needed.
It’s important to note that the same photo cannot be used in both categories; doing so will result in disqualification. All submitted images must meet the following technical requirements:
- Format: JPEG.
- High resolution.
- Minimum size: 5 MB.
- The longer dimension of the photo should be no less than 2,000 pixels.
- Image quality should be at least 300 dpi.
Participants are allowed to use mobile phones to capture their images, but each photo should be a minimum of 2 MB in size.
Rules & Regulations:
1. Photos should only be submitted through the competition’s online registration page at www.hipa.ae. Submissions can be made from 25 September 2023, until 15 October 2023. Entries received after this time will not be accepted.
2. Participants must be individuals, not organizations, and should be at least 18 years old when entering. RTA and HIPA can disqualify photos from participants under 18 without notice.
3. Participants may be asked to upload RAW images upon request. Photos must be free of logos, signatures, frames, and other added marks. Basic edits are fine, but advanced alterations and manipulations are not allowed. RTA and HIPA can disqualify images if they break these rules.
4. Images or clips featuring inappropriate or offensive content, such as nudity, violence, or materials conflicting with religion, culture, public morality, or authentic Emirati customs and traditions, will result in disqualification.
Entries will be reviewed by a HIPA Award judging panel, known for their impartiality, transparency, creativity, and aesthetic standards, in line with the award’s prestigious international reputation. Dubai offers breathtaking beaches, urban scenes, and cultural landscapes, providing rich inspiration for residents, visitors, and tourists, particularly in the context of maritime transportation, which can result in captivating images. Winners will be awarded with a prize of up to AED 30,000.
