A few months ago, Mercedes-Benz altered the GLK series SUV’s to GLC, now they are turning their attention to SLK models, by dropping the K and adding a C instead. But that’s not all, with the latest generation of convertibles rolling in, there are plenty of changes all round.
From the front end, you see a new front grille has been slapped on which is very much in line with Mercedes-Benz S and C-Class coupes and that’s not the only similarity the new convertible shares with other Mercedes. Front headlights transition across with optional Mercedes LED intelligent light system, whereas the front bumper receives a minor touch up.
Out back, rear taillights have been revised, a new rear bumper has been attached with elegant new dual exhausts further down.
Inside, COMAND infotainment system receives a reprogramming and crammed with new features plus a larger 4.1-inch display, a new steering wheel has been bolted into the steering column and there are some new trim and leather options to choose from.
Five versions of Mercedes-Benz SLC’s will be available to purchase, four of them petrol and one diesel. There is a very slim chance the diesel option will make its way across to our shores, however, for those wanting one the official dealer will no doubt help you obatining one.

Sorry V8 lovers, Mercedes have not released any information on whether an SLK 55 AMG will return with a different letter. However have no fear as the SLC 43 AMG has only 54 horsepower less than the massive eight-cylinder, it is however 0.1 second slower than the larger engine but this one is more environmentally friendly. Besides this, the German manufacturer decided to add a much more desirable entry level with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine.
Outgoing SLK 55 AMG models had their power sent the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox, however, SLC 43 AMG models will still have power sent to the rear via a nine-speed automatic gearbox with selectable driving modes: Sport, Sport Plus, Individual, Comfort and Eco. All models come standard with sports suspension, whereas SLC 43 AMG models have an optional AMG Ride Control sports suspension with active damper control to create the perfect ride. Manual transmissions are said to be available at least in Europe.
Revisions have been made to the electrohydraulic hard-top roof, which can now be operated at speeds of up to 40 km/h.
Mercedes are the second auto-manufacturer to show off what’s new, after Infiniti has also done it before the Detroit Auto Show in January 2016. The brand has even shown off the new badge in a trailer found below.
Mercedes-Benz SLC models are due to roll on asphalt sometime next year and will be branded as 2017 models, for now (before the name is gone) check out all new Mercedes-Benz SLK and used Mercedes-Benz SLK for sale in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
