Drivers caught not allowing pedestrians to cross the road in designated areas will now incur an AED 500 fine and six traffic points.
Dubai Police has started installing “advanced surveillance systems” around designated pedestrian crossings. These new surveillance units will be active throughout the day to catch offenders.
“There are lots of drivers who do not prioritize pedestrians who cross the roads from designated areas. This is a serious violation and can cause injuries and even death,” explained Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council and Dubai Police assistant commander-in-chief for operations.
“Motorists should reduce their speed as they approach pedestrian crossings, especially while driving through densely populated areas,” Maj-Gen Al Zafeen expressed further.
As of July 1, 2018, Dubai Police has been charging hefty fines to those caught driving recklessly.
