Electric vehicles are a big thing nowadays with all the big names jumping on the bandwagon to produce a handful for the general public to get their hands on. While still a relatively rare sight in the UAE, more and more are entering the market with one of the latest being the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt.
Built and developed in partnership with LG, the latest Chevy Bolt features a range of interesting aerodynamic aids including the aero shutters located in the front grille which open up for increased cooling.
The 2019 Chevrolet Bolt is an all-electric affair as it is powered by a 60-kWh battery pack delivering 204 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque. On a single charge, the Bolt can travel nearly 500 km. The batteries are positioned underneath the floor for a lower centre of gravity.
To fill “the tank” or recharge the battery pack to full takes just two and a half hours using a D/C fast charger and up to ten hours using a standard A/C charger and costs between AED 14 and AED 24 to fully recharge.
To keep the batteries running at a controlled temperature, the vehicle is fitted with a liquid cooling system. Chevrolet is one of only a handful of manufacturers to use such a system as it is faster and increases battery life by regulating the temperature.
In the UAE, the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt starts at AED 162,000.
Chevrolet is said to be introducing two new electric vehicles in the next 18 months, and rumour has it one if not both of them could be an SUV.
