Drivers and riders of the UAE can breathe a little easier now when it comes to paying fines as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced interest-free instalments by using a credit card available at select banks in the UAE.
Although the RTA has announced that all drivers can use the service, it can only be used to pay fines issues in Dubai and not other Emirates.
“RTA has launched this service to enable clients to pay fines due to RTA in easy instalments through credit cards over a period of one year without incurring bank interests,” explained Ahmad Al Kaabi Executive Director of Finance at RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector.
A number of banks have partnered with the RTA for customers to use the new service; Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Commercial International Bank, Mashreq Bank, Noor Bank, Emirates NBD, Emirates Islamic Bank, Noor Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank. If you don’t see your bank listed, don’t worry, over the next few months, more banks will be added to the list.
No matter what amount your fines may add up to, those seeking to make use of the instalment process must use the RTA application on smartphones to avail the instalment offers.
Currently, there is no limit on the fine amount that can be paid via the instalment scheme.
Earlier this year, the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi also revealed an instalment plan for fine payment, however, it is only available to First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) customers only. Fine instalments can be paid over three, six or 12 months in Abu Dhabi.
