Abu Dhabi Poilce setup up new radars with number plate recognition

Abu Dhabi Police have announced that new radars have been put in place across the Emirate and are equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology. The new technology installed allows the speed cameras to automatically read number plates, keep track of how many cars are in the area and note the flow of traffic.

Earlier this year, Abu Dhabi police revealed smart radar systems to be implemented in Abu Dhabi to detect expired registration.

Brigader-General Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, director of central operations, Abu Dhabi Police explained; “The installation of new radars on the roads is part of a comprehensive plan to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents.”

Last year, 17 solar-powered speed cameras were installed in various areas of Abu Dhabi where violations and accidents are frequent. These cameras automatically detect bad lane discipline, over speeding and using the hard shoulder to overtake other motorists.

Dubicars would like to remind all drivers to follow the posted speed limits in the nation’s capital as the 20 km/h over and above the posted speed limit buffer has been removed. If one drives past the camera at 1 km/h faster than the limit, a fine will be issued.
