The Dubai International Motor Festival is full of world first’s, new cars available in the region and would not be complete without a concept or two. Lincoln has shown off its concept of the Lincoln Continental that is destined to hit showroom floors in the next calendar year. Lincoln’s Continental has been in and out of production for over 75 years with latest models rolling off the production line in 2002. From there, Lincoln’s Town Car took over as their main full sized sedan. After 15 odd years, Lincoln’s Continental is set to become the flagship sedan.
Adorning the front end is a sleek new “Signature” Lincoln grille that would become the norm on future Lincoln’s and will make its debut on the final product. The outer shell captures “elegant beauty” and in an effort to create one of the smoothest body designs, door handles were moved up just below the window sills. This feature alone has boggled the brains of onlookers and all left them wondering “Why up there?”
E-Latch technology is to be used by the American Company, basically its an easier way of opening the door with or without a handle, it works by simply pressing a button. Door sills inside will also feature no mechanical mechanism for where the door handle should be, freeing up space inside. Again, it will be replaced by a button to release the door.
Rear seats are the main focal point of the interior, with rear foldaway tables for those who do business on the go. Much like other luxury sedan’s “chauffeur” rear seats have been implemented for those who would like to kick back and relax and there are special cup holders to use during special occasions. In the footwells are one-inch thick shag carpets. Much more information has yet to be revealed, however seeing as its Lincon’s take on the luxury sedan market, expect front and rear cooled seats, rear entertainment facilities, multi-function powered seats plus a whole load more that we just have to wait for.
A lot of detailed specifications have yet to be released of the vehicle as its still in its concept form, but Lincoln has said over the next couple of months more info will be released regarding engine size, displacement, drivetrain, horsepower and other specs that we all would like to know.
However, Lincoln has given us some information on what’s to come. An exclusive powertrain for the brand (meaning Ford can’t borrow it at some stage) coupled with a 3.0-litre twin turbocharged engine (possibly a V6). This new system will be implemented in 2016 and could make its way underneath the bonnet of the new Lincoln Continental.
Pricing and official release date has not been officially confirmed although 2017 models in 2016 are hugely hinted at.
As its only a concept for now many exterior and interior options may differ from what we see from the pictures, for the time being you can check out all new Lincoln vehicles and used Lincoln vehicle listing in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
